Managed to fit my new fan belt this morning and whilst we were at it changed the power steering belt for good measure. Excellent! So I thought I would have a look for the source of the stench of fuel in the car and the reason for me doing 3000 gallons of fuel a week when only doing 70 miles in the 7 days. Found it!! Willpost the pics up on Monday! Basically the whole drivers side rear arch has rotten away including the fuel filler expansion pipe (the thin one that comes off the fuel filler my the mouth goes up and then comes back down and returns to the fuel tank). The whole arch has gone, the inner wing in the boot has gone and the plastic trim in the arch came off in my hand with the bolts still attached to the metal, so I has to self tappet it back on! A hge amount of work is now required to get her water tight and to stop the fumes coming in. The small pipe I mention a sec ago has loads of holes in it so the fuel and fumes are obviously escaping from there. I'll be taking it round a few bodyshops next week to get it sorted but to say I'm not a happy bunny would be an understatement. :( |

Cheers Gents....Steve to be honest myself BMK from the otherside and a guy heavily into motors went up to view the car when I bought it and none of us thought to check behind the carpet. Gutted but then I have got to expect it from a 15 year old car. Just a shock thats all. Sierra hey?? Hmm a bit of ford on my classic E30?Nah I'll keep her as a BM regardles of cost me thinks. Cheers for the tip though fella. |

I hear you about the ford bit, but I think my friend said sumit like "The sierra inner wing is full metal and the bm one is plastic or sumit!!" Just a question for you to ask the body shop! |

Ok mate, ta. I will have done whatever is the best option. Also looking into getting a couple of 6'x4' sheets of ABS plastic and cutting out some wheel arch liners. Thinking if I put them in and then seal the edges, no cr*p and crud should come into contact with any of the rustable underside. |

Yeah I guess. Gotta expect it from a 15 year old car. But my plan is to keep the car for m kids to use in 15 years time so any thing I spend on her now trying to restore her to her former glory wll be an investment. A1/Artis, How much do you fella's want for the fuel fillers posted? |

Sorry to read this Daryll. It's getting to the point where tinworm is every E30 owners worst enemy. I doubt if there's any totally rot-free E30s left, despite what certain owners say about their pride 'n' joy. :chuckle: |

I read all the posts about welding/rot in E30's and I'm still trying to find some on my car.. I think I might have a rusty coloured stain near my battery. Does this entitle me to join the rusty E30 club ?? |

Sorry to hear about that geese, good job it look's nice from the outside hey :bmwdance: Mine's got bad rot on the driver's side in the boot but on the light side. It goes from the rubber seal for the boot right through to the bottom where you can see it from the outside. Look's like a drainage hole gone wong :( O'well, they still fight on and so shall we :bmwdance: :D |

Matt, do you still have that fuel filler pipe mate? In need of one big time, hopefully going to get it into the bodyshop next week as the fumes are starting to take their toll on my little body! :( |

i think your car beat my petrol consumption on monday, half a tank £20 to travel 40 miles, agreed a seal had gone on one of the injectors and it was p'ssing fuel everywhere but i figure if thats £20 to get to and from work daily, then i might be able to afford the 750il i want (petrol cost might still be higher tho ) :P |

Took my car to a local bodyshop for a quote to weld up my inner wheel arch and they said they couldn't do it! Said it's a specialist job! Twat! Got another place to go to tonight but fot the meanwhile i think I am going to have the fuel filler pipe replaced and then fibreglass the innerwheel arch for now to stop all the dirt and water getting in there. Gonna be far cheaper and quicker, sometime next year I'll get it welded up properly. |

alot of people will be put off welding it mate , becouse were you have to weld to , is on to the outter arch , and it could end up blistering the paint work , and you would have to have the rear quater repainted , |
