Strange, i didn't think the handbrake cable would have any effect on the pedal .

One thing I forgot to mention is that i have rear drums so maybe that has an effect on things?

They are twice as keen as they were last week!!!

Last year I put on new disc`s /pads, and also new drums, shoes, springs etc.
I also bled the brakes as well.

At the same time i took up the handbrake cable from inside the car and it semed ok but I wasnt convinced.

I tightened up the cables again from inside the car (last week ) and the next morning
when I first drove her , I noticed the firm pedal and less pedal travel.

The brakes have always been ok since the work I did , but now it`s like driving a different car :woowoo: :woowoo:

I was a bit disapointed at the time of fiting all the new stuff but now I feel more confident in the car.(it must be the wings   )

oh god knows mate, i'm crap on brakes TBH :freekout:

I always thought you adjusted the handbrake from underneath.

I was wondering if you had adjusted the shoes, because i think that would affect the pedal and handbrake??

This would point to incorrectly adjusted rear shoes by tightening the cables you have taken up the excessive clearance between shoes and drum, meaning less movement of the slave cylinder is required to apply the shoes giving a higher pedal ( less fluid required by the rear slaves.
not sure if these shoes are fitted with self adjusters, even the haynes book of jokes should shed some light on that. Either way Mart its wrong and will probably lead to shorter shoe and cable life.

cheers John.

They do have self adjusters so I`ll look into it.
The drums ,shoes and springs were all renewed last year so they may not be working correctly as a mate of mine fit the springs for me.

generally speaking on drums the hand brake adjustment affects the "at rest" point of the shoes so the better adjusted they are the less travel the shoes have to do before contacting the drum.

you would think the auto adjusters would sort this tho.
