my last shell was in worse nick and i had made a start on that id had a rear qtr fitted but was still needing work done on the rear inner arches and had rust in the same bits as this on the bulkhead but again was right through my brother was willing to do the welding to that for me so i would say this will be nothing to him ( hes just restored a mk2 escort which was needing a roof and lods of welding work done... ) as my brother says theres a couple of hours work in the car for him as long as ive got it all easy to access for him

im fairly chuffed with whats needing done to the car as its far from the worst ive had and lets be honest its 21 years and 6 days old

thing is Mart as i say the work thats needing done to this one for me i would class as minor compared to cars ive seen restored in the past. my brother has just done a mk2 escort 1.6 sport which hes completely stripped down and rebuilt. its had a new roof skin, rear lower qtrs, rear arches, top plates and probarly a lot more than i know about. my brother put a rear qtr on my last sport for me and has done a lod of other cars for me in the past ( my brother is the welder in the family.. he is a sheet metal worker fabricator to trade but now works as a fireman ) here is a few pics of my brothers project and yous can see what i mean by his work ( sorry for the blue oval pics... but at least its rwd )

glad to here you have found something half decent to restore matey :woowoo:

it looks like your brother knows what he is doing

and at least as you say its a RWD rightness mate ( i might be a bit bias here as my first car was an mkII escort 1600 ghia )

yeah keep us posted on both mate, i love the old Mk2 Escorts.
Very useful to have a brother as handy as that with a mig. I see why you say about the E30 having minor problems now.

Most people can do the mechanical side with a push and a shove, but to weld "properly" is an art mate.

Looks like you have an artist in the family James !!

By the way, put any pics up you want to mate, we all love to see people create and restore.

I think its the paint colour as well that tips it for me, they match so well that its just got to have been a women from BMW who first came up with this combination.

well now that the better wethers coming oin ive finally managed to make a start on the car so far ive stripped the dash out to find the rot behind there.. here goes

Posted Image
in behind the fuse box its not the double skinned bit so I'm glad about that..

Posted Image
passengers side front corner could turn out bigger once i hot it with the grinder...

Posted Image
drivers side at the rear of the battery tray.. I've got the sections cut out of another shell already

Posted Image
drivers side front corner.. looks grubby i hit it with the screw driver couldn't fell nothing soft but will see when it gets the grinder on it...

I'm not one for taking loads of progress pics.. id rather just get the work done so don't wait to see loads of progress pics but will try my best

any how the misses is out the bairns at his aunties so i decided to hit the rust with the grinder and wire brush attachment while im getting some free time. not to bad if i say so my self.. couldn't get into the battery tray ill need to take the pedal box out for that one so i know the next job...

Posted Image
glad it never spread up the way to where its double skinned..

Posted Image
will need to catch this from inside the arch as well as under the bonnet

Posted Image
passengers front corner never went as far as i thought it would..

Posted Image
drivers front corner as suspected

Posted Image
the tool used for the job

god I'm doing good with this picture carry on......

cheers for the positive comments guys.. I've been spending my time removing the sorry state of a wiring loom from it my next job is to get the pedal box out and the front end stripped down to ease access to the bits needing work. ill also be removing the lump as sadly its a non runner. got my engine from my old sport so that will be going in in its place plus I'm going to be upgrading to the motronic 1.3 setup kindly donated by a boy off retro from his breaker..

I've sorted out my old wiring loom from my old sport which will be going in ( I'm glad i kept it now as i never thought id actually need it !!! ) i almost binned it when i scrapped the old sport!!

will get more pics up soon as to be honest it dosent look like ive done anything the now so not took any yet

Shame we're at opposite ends of the country,
I'd love to come round and help out.

I could learn a bit about doing it myself,
and save myself a fortune on a professional welder.
