Alpina C2 2.5

Hi there , thought I would share some pics of my Alpina C2 2.5.

It started life as a 323i when it was delivered to Synter in June 85. The egnine was removed and a custom Alpina engine was installed using a 525eta lump with a Alpina reworked head. The car now producess 195bhp and has a top speed of 144-149 mph and a 0-60 time is in the high 6 second margin. It took around 5 months for this conversion to be done and only 74 were ever produced before the C2 2.7 was released.

Many people make the mistake of thinking the C 2.5 is the same car but in fact is just a 325i in Alpina drag and was known as the Alpina sports package.

The 1st C2 2.5 was build number 0304 and mine is build number 0306.

Welcome to the Planet!

You'll be able to keep up with the convertible on here, the old problems I've fixed, the new problems to sort out, and the never ending stream of money it likes to cost me. God I love it. It's just like a good woman - sexy, German, fierce, and with a collapsible head. But anyway, your Alpina. What a car. I've just scrolled down to type in the reply box, and noticed on the bottom edge of the photo something which is quite cool.

That, to me says very strongly, "race car"

Have you got a Tech-1 rear spoiler for her yet?

I've had a fair bit of work done since you last saw it Ash.

I finally got the nose straightend after my little tap on the M25 last year.

I've had all the fule lines replaced and a new filler neck pipe.

The cluster board had gone bad which had stopped my mpg guage and the temp guage from working. Finally after several clusters that I couldn't put the Alpina dials on I managed to get a full unit from a 323i which can take all my guages.

I've had a majour service done which coast me £431 but bloody hell it's soooooo much better for it. I also had all the valves checked and set at the same time.

Currently it's up a local garage having a new front section put on the pipe as the old one broke at the weld last weekend while I was in MK picking parts up.

I'm have the left rear brake hoses changed and the left rear top mount replaced soon. Also new power steering belt and a fan belt are being done too.

Needs 4 new tyres which is going to cost me about £388 for Goodyear F1's

Having the little bits of body work sorted out some time when I can finally get it up to the body shop.

After umming and aring for ages about the spoiler I actually called up Synter and quieried which style would have been put on ( I always thought it would be the Alpina spoiler that's like a tech1 ) and I was told that due to it being so close to the C1 2.3 run they would have put the same spoiler on it and then would have gone over to a teach1 style in mid 86. The biggest outlay for the Alpina is still the cost of petrol as it's still doing about 23 mpg on a long run but as you know the car just begs to be reved which pushes down to 21mpg!

One thing you may be intrested in is I have the coding plug for the same cluster the cab is using, this will stop the rev counter and mpg counter thinking it's a 4 pot and will make it read correctly as a 6 pot.Now the weather is so nice I would love to drive down to your neck of the woods to catch up , see the cabby and help you with a few things. Oh of course go out in the Alpina and do Autobarn speeds on the public high ways :D

Also while I remember , are you keeping the Alpina's on the cabby? Ironically I wouldn't mind buying them back off you lol. Realising 8j rears might be a good idea after all hehehehe.

I reeeally want to take the cab for a service, but I'm scared the cost will run into thousands, and I don't have that much going spare just at the moment. Something's up with the alarm too, I'm building quite a little nest of frazzled batteries, in the corner of the garage. Then of course, there's the rust. I've had a chap look at it, and quote me £700 for the two arches, or £2000 to get the whole car completely rust-free. Well worth it to have the car nice again, but a bit owchie nonetheless. I've also had a cheaper quote from a guy that welds big steel bars together for a living, but I want it to be flawless.

Back on topic,
Goodyear F1s. You have seen the light. Try them out first, before you make the decision to go to 8J wheels. I'll be keeping the Alpina wheels on the cab, because if I changed them for anything else, I'd only want them back on again. You got the car just about perfect.

Feel free to come on down, though you might be a little surprised, for all the time and money I've put into the car, there's hardly anything new or different on it. New oil, new battery, new tool kit, few new rear bulbs, new central locking solenoid switches all round, but nothing you can actually see. Help would be appreciated, there's lots of easy DIY stuff needing to be done. It'd be good to see you again too. Maybe I'll be awake next time.

Any videos of the car?

I can still remember clearly the sound of the engine, and it still turns me a bit mushy.

It's not something I really have bothered with in all honesty.

Currently it's just having a custom front pipe fitted as I discovered late yesterday afternoon it's running the orginal Alpina manifold. The boare of the exhuast is a large margin more than the normal 325i system.

looplee - Because the engine has a good deal more power and low end tourqe it's a fairly lazy engine below 3800rpm. It has a direct fueling system when pumps directly into the combustion chamber. If I oush the Alpina I will be doing 14 to 18mpg and a rather rapid rate of mph!
